ROCHESTER, NY– Lea Richard hit a new school record and finished second overall in the hammer throw to lead the Nazareth University Women's Track and Field team at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flyers finished seventh as a team with 57.5 points. Geneseo won the team points race with 141 points followed by RIT (117 points), Rochester (92), Brockport (91.5), University of Buffalo (67), Canisius (59) and Nazareth (57.5). The Golden Flyers finished ahead of St. John Fisher (46), Buffalo St. (22), Houghton (15), Fredonia (14), Roberts Wesleyan (13) and Hilbert.
Richard broke the school record with a toss of 51.37 meters (168' 6") earning a second-place finish. The previous record was set by Richard last year at St. John Fisher with a throw of 50.37 meters.
Freshman Emily Rolince (33.65) earned 10th while Richard earned 12th with a score of 32.16 in the discus throw.
Sophomore Ella Impaglia (11:44.41) and freshman Bailey Visingard (11:56.53) earned eighth and 11th place in the 3000-meter Steeplechase to open the invitational. Impaglia improved her personal best from a time of 11:55.30.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Sophomore Samantha Luba earned seventh place with a time of 16.91 (previous best of 17.25) while fellow teammate Hannah Ragule earned 11th place with a 17.24 finish (previous best of 17.27).
Senior Isabella Heath had strong finishes in both the 400-meter (1:01.09) and 100-meter (13.53) placing seventh and 13th respectively. In the 100-meter, Alexis Lasher finished ninth (13.06) followed by a 10th place finish from teammate Jasmine Kendrick (13.25).
Freshmen Kennedy Rose (2:30.44), Morgan Pospiech (2:30.55), and Kelsey Fahy (2:30.73) finished in 14th, 16th, and 18th place in the 800-meter.
In the 1500-meter event, seniors Paige Ackley (5:07.98), Lilianna Hanning (5:10.45), and Emily Weaver (5:12.12) earned 24th, 29th, and 30th place. Ackley improved her score in the event (previous best 5:13.31).
Alaina Morley had a 14th place finish (26.93) in the 200-meter event, surpassing her previous best of 27.00.
Sophomores Rosie Morse, Kiara Tornusciolo, and Isabel Morse had impressive finishes in the pole vault event earning third, fifth, and sixth place respectively earning a 3.31 mark.
There were several strong performances in the long jump event including fourth place finish from Morley (5.27), fifth place Kendrick (5.08), sixth place Heath (5.06), eighth place Ragule (4.94), and 10th place Peytyn Geer (4.86).
The Golden Flyers return to action at the Brockport Invitational on Friday April 12 at 4pm and April 13 at 10am.
