ROCHESTER, NY– Kenny Williams, Joseph Cataldo, Ethan Kenyon, and Brennan Farr took home first place in the 4x800 and sophomore Michael Puglisi notched first place in the 400-meter race at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational meet Sunday afternoon to lead the Nazareth University Men's Track and Field team to a seventh-place team finish.
University of Buffalo won the team points race with 125 points followed by Rochester (119.5 points), Geneseo (100), Brockport (96), RIT (88.5), Buffalo St. (63) and Nazareth (59.5). The Golden Flyers finished ahead of Fredonia (31), St. John Fisher (24), Canisius (14), Houghton (12), Hilbert (5) and Roberts Wesleyan (0.5).
Williams, Cataldo, Kenyon, and Farr earned a time of 8:23.62 in their first-place victory.
Junior Benjamin Lewis had strong performances in both the 100-meter (11.17) and 200-meter (22.69) events placing fourth and seventh respectively. He surpassed his previous best in the 100-meter (previous best of 11.35). Welch (23.25) and Nettles (23.44) notched 17th and 19th place in the 200m. Sophomore Jack Pomykaj followed Lewis in the 100-meter with a time of 11.43 earning 16th place.Puglisi beat his personal best in the 400-meter with a time of 49.31 (previous best of 50.51). Teammates Jaylen Savage (51.41) and Mike Welch (51.76) took 12th and 17th place in the same event.
In the 3000m Steeplechase, Kenyon (10:01.27) and sophomore Antonio Benitez (10:09.15) notched third and fourth place respectively. Both Kenyon and Benitez improved their best scores from 10:15.79 and 10:09.70.
Senior Connor McCauslin had a strong third place finish in the 110-meter Hurdles with a time of 15.76 and earned ninth in the 400-meter hurdles (59.60). Sophomore Aaron Lund (15.93) and Holden Thomas (16.58) followed in fifth and ninth place during the 400-meter hurdle event.
Pomykaj had strong performances in the pole vault event (4.16m) placing sixth and in the long jump (6.27) earning 11th.
Sophomore Gavin McAllister earned eighth place in the 800-meter event with a 1:58.44.
Aaron Lund placed 10th in both the high jump (1.71m) and long jump (6.29m) Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jason Marchincin also hit the same mark of 1.71 in the high jump. Sophomore Ryan DeShane followed in 16th place in the long jump event with a 6.07m performance.
The Golden Flyers return to action at the Brockport Invitational and Multi meet Friday April 12 at 4pm and Saturday April 13 at 10am.
