ALBANY, NY – The Nazareth Softball team managed just one hit in the first game and was limited to three runs in game two as the Golden Flyers dropped a pair of Empire 8 game at Russell Sage Sunday.
Sage (13-13 overall, 5-3 Empire 8) won a 3-0 decision in the opening game and held on for a 7-3 victory in game two.
Nazareth (10-10, 4-4 Empire 8) had just one hit by senior Justine Brooks in the first game while Sage scored one run in the third and two more in the sixth for the shutout victory.
Senior Emily Daciw tossed the complete game allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters.
In game two, junior Cassidy Hoffmier, graduate student Sarah Simmons and freshman Megan Stadel each had a pair of hits as Nazareth accounted for 10 hits in the contest.
The Golden Flyers did not score until the sixth inning after Sage had built a 7-0 lead. In the sixth, freshman Maddy Spakoski and Sarah Simmons singled to start the frame. Stadel followed with a run-scoring hit. Simmons scored on a ground out before Daciw singled to score Stadel with the third run of the inning.
Nazareth returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against Rochester Tuesday on Flyer Field.
