Welch Hits PR to lead Men’s Track and Field at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – Senior Mike Welch won the 200-meter race with a personal best time and also placed fifth in the 400 to lead the Nazareth Men's Track and Field team at the Brockport Invitational Saturday.

Welch clocked a 22.30 to win the 200 meter race as he took the lead coming off the final turn and raced down the stretch to the win. He added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 50.20 which is currently the top time in the event for Empire 8 athletes.

Freshman Jaylen Savage was sixth in the 400 with a time of 50.63 and was also sixth in the 200 with hos time of 22.83.

Fellow freshman Aaron Lund was third in the decathlon with a point total of 5,647 and teammate John Pomykaj was 5th with a total of 5,292.

Sophomore Ethan Kenyon led a pack of four Nazareth runners to top-10 finishes in the 5K as he place fifth in 16:29.45. Freshman Cameron Almy was sixth in 16:34.48, junior Ethan Glashauser was eighth in 16:41.75 and freshman Antonio Benitez was ninth with a time of 16:43.97.

Freshman Holden Thomas was third (16.05) and freshman Ryan DeShane was sixth (17.24) in the 110-meter hurdles. Thomas was ninth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.81.

Freshman Gavin McAllister took 11th in the 800 race with a time of 2:01.34.

In field events, DeShane was ninth (12.29 meters/ 40' 3 ¾") in the triple jump and 16th (5.96 meters/ 19' 6 ¾") in the long jump. Freshman Adam Reifsteck was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.45 meters (21' 2") and was 10th in the triple jump (12.25 meters/40' 2 ¼").

Freshman Jason Bletsko finished tied for fifth in the pole vault as he cleared the 4.00-meter (13' 1 ½") bar.

Four athletes had top-12 finishes in the high jump for Nazareth led by senior Arthur DeVasto (1.18 meters/5' 11 ¼") and sophomore Kyle Reid was tied for ninth with the same height but more missed jumps during the competition. Freshman Gabe Wilson placed 11th (1.75 meters/5' 9 ¼") and fellow freshman Jason Marchincin was 12th (1.17 meters/5' 7 ¼").
