Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – 12-ranked Nazareth lost a pivotal UVC matchup on Wednesday night at Kidera Gymnasium, falling to Elmira 25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Owen Wickens led the way with 17 kills and seven digs.
Nazareth is now 14-5 on the season and 0-4 in UVC play, while Elmira moves to 9-3 and 2-1 in the UVC.
After falling in the first set, Nazareth rolled to a 25-14 lead in the second. The Golden Flyers held the Soaring Eagles to hit -.138 with just six kills on 29 attempts with 10 errors.
In the third, Nazareth broke open a 9-9 lead with three-straight points. Elmira had a pair of attack errors sandwiching a Wickens kill. The score was tied at 23 all before Alberto Mauricio had a pair of kills to end the set.
Nazareth trailed 19-16 in the third and pulled within 19-18, before a service error from the Flyers. For the day, Nazareth had 19 service errors. The game was also tied at 22-22, before Elmira rattled off the next three points.
Alex Bertino hit .321 for the match with 12 kills, while also adding six digs.
Max Stuver was credited with nine kills and a team-high four blocks.
Trent Caviness had 45 assists in the match.
Andrew Bodensteiner had four kills and three service aces.
Nazareth will travel to MIT on Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.
