NEW YORK, NY – Junior
Lea Richard smashed her own school record in the weight throw and was crowned champion with a heave of 17.22 meters (56 feet, 6 inches) to highlight the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field (at the Armory) on Saturday. Richard's throw moves her into 17
th on the national list which would currently qualify her for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. As a team, Nazareth finished 11
th out of 40 teams with 21 points over the two days.
Richard delivered the eye-popping mark of 17.22 meters (56 feet, 6 inches) on her third throw. Her previous record was 17.03 meters (55 feet, 10 ½ inches) set at the Nazareth Conference Tune-up on February 17. The Gansevoort, NY native bested her previous school record on three of her six throws with heaves of 17.03, 17.06, and 17.22 meters. The second-place finisher was Brenna Karnish of Misericordia who threw 17.09 meters (56 feet, 1 inch).
The Golden Flyers saw some good performances in the triple jump, with
Hannah Ragule jumping 10.95 meters (35 feet, 11 ¼ inches) which earned her 11
th place. Classmate
Isabella Heath took 14
th as her jump of 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6 ¾ inches).
Emily Weaver was 29
th in the mile (5:29.40).
Abbey Szumloz was 17
th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.60.
