2022-23 Women's Indoor Track and Field Award Winners
ROCHESTER, NY – For the second consecutive season,
Brenna Johnson was tabbed the Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the conference end of the year awards, while head coach James Goss and his coaching staff took home the Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time. The women's track and field team were guided to their first-ever Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship in 2022-23. In addition, senior
Sydney Vanderhoof was Nazareth's representative on the Sportswoman of the Year Team.
Johnson, who also won the 2023 Empire 8 Championship Field Athlete of the Meet, delivered wins in the high jump at personal best 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1 3/4 inches) and the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters (18 feet, 7 inches) at the conference championship. In that same meet, she produced excellent performances on the track, winning the 60-meter dash in a personal best and school record time of 7.82, was second in the 200 (25.99), and third in the 400 (59.47).
The graduate student earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships for the second consecutive year in the long jump, finishing in 17
th place with a mark of 5.38 meters (17 feet, 8 inches).
The coaching staff helped the women's squad win the first-ever conference championship and set multiple top 10 school records along the way. Johnson set two school records in 2022-23 in the 60-meters (7.82) and the 200 (25.85). Johnson (57.73) and classmate
Abbey Szumloz (59.62) also have the second and third fastest times in school history in the 400-meter run. Senior
Emily Weaver contributed the second fastest mile time of 5:19.38 at the conference championships, while
Hannah Ragule had the second most points in school history in the pentathlon (2,917). Lastly,
Isabel Morse (11 feet, 1 ¾ inches),
Kiara Tornusciolo (11 feet, ¼ inches) and
Rosie Morse (10 feet) have the second, third, and fourth best pole vaults in school history.
Vanderhoof earns a spot on the Sportswoman of the Year team after placing third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.0) at the Empire 8 Conference meet.
