Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Nationally Ranked Geneseo

ROCHESTER, NY – After taking an early lead against SUNY Geneseo, the Nazareth Women's Lacrosse dropped an 18-10 decision Wednesday in a non-conference matchup on Nazareth Lacrosse Players Association (NLPA) Field.

Seniors Maren Wallace and Kate Metzler each scored twice in the first 20 minutes of action to help Nazareth (0-2) to an early 5-4 lead but Geneseo (1-0), ranked No. 23 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll, rallied for eight consecutive goals in a span of eight minutes to take control of the game as the Knights led 10-5 at halftime.

Nazareth scored twice in the first seven minutes of the third quarter with seniors Annie Rubel and Maggie Vay scoring to trim the lead.

The teams traded goals with senior Reva Mussi scoring along with the second goal of the day for Vay early in the fourth quarter, but Geneseo held on to the 13-9 lead and finished the game with three of the final four goals to seal the victory.

Vay finished with three goals to lead the Golden Flyers while Rubel, Wallace and Metzler each scored twice. Senior Emma States had three assists and Rubel led the team with six draw controls.

Nazareth will play on the road for the next two games with non-conference games at RIT Saturday and at Cortland next Wednesday before departing for the annual spring training trip to Panama City, Florida to play Fredonia and Vassar in neutral site games.
