Second Half Rally Lifts Women’s Lacrosse to Win

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Emma States started a four-goal run with her second goal of the game late in the third quarter as the Nazareth Women's Lacrosse team took a lead in the final quarter and held on for a 13-12 win at RIT Saturday in a non-conference game.

Nazareth (1-2) jumped out to an early lead and held a 6-3 advantage with a States goal early in the second quarter.

RIT (0-2) scored the next three goals to knot the game at 6-6 with 13 seconds remaining in the first half and the team went into the break tied.

In the second half, the teams traded goals early as senior Kate Metzler and junior Emily Paddock scored for the Golden Flyers.

The Tigers scored the next two goals to regain the lead at 9-8 with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter.

Less than a minute later, States started the pivotal rally for Nazareth with her third goal of the game before the end of the period.

States scored again early in the fourth to give Nazareth the 10-9 lead. Sophomore Julia Deitz and Paddock scored back-to-back goals to run the streak to four goals in the rally and give Nazareth a 12-9 lead with 5:23 left.

RIT stopped the rally but States scored her fifth goal of the day less than a minute later to give the Golden Flyers a 13-10 edge.

RIT scored twice down the stretch to close the gap to 13-12. The Tigers won the ensuing draw control but a turnover in front of the goal gave possession back to Nazareth and the Golden Flyers were able to run out the clock for the win.

States led Nazareth with six points on five goals and an assist while sophomore Makenna Misiurewicz, Paddock, Metzler, senior Maren Wallace each finished with two points apiece.

Sophomore Tori Henchen made 15 saves to earn her first career victory for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers are scheduled to play at Cortland Wednesday before a pair of games in Florida for the annual Spring Training trip.
