Women’s Lacrosse Outscored by Nationally Ranked Cortland

CORTLAND, NY – A pair of seven-goal runs for No. 13 SUNY Cortland proved to be too much for the Nazareth Women's Lacrosse team as the Red Dragons posted an 18-5 win Wednesday in Cortland.

The teams traded goals in the opening minutes as senior Emma States scored for Nazareth (1-3) but the Red Dragons (2-1) scored the next seven goals to take an 8-1 lead.

States scored her second goal of the contest late in the first quarter to stop the run but Cortland answered with another seven-goal run with all seven goals in the second quarter to forge ahead 15-2 at the end of the first half.

States scored her third goal of the game to start the third quarter and after Cortland scored two more goals, sophomores Grace Seither and Makenna Misiurewicz each scored for the Golden Flyers to make it 17-5 and Cortland added a late goal for the final score.

Sophomore Tori Henchen started the game in goal for Nazareth and surrendered 12 goals before freshman Allie Klestinec came on to play the final 40 minutes and made five saves with six goals allowed.

Nazareth will play Monday against Fredonia and Wednesday against Vassar with both games taking place in Panama City, Florida.
