Men's Hockey Halted By Wilkes, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's hockey team fell 2-1 to Wilkes University in a crucial UCHC contest on Friday, despite holding a 38-22 advantage in shots. The Golden Flyers, losers of three-straight games, are now 11-7-2 overall and 9-5-1 in league play, while Wilkes moves to 11-7-1 and 9-5-0 in the UCHC.
 
Nazareth and Wilkes will square off again on Saturday at Bill Gray's Iceplex with a 4 p.m. start time. The Golden Flyers are holding a 10th anniversary game celebration with former players and parents expected for the game, including a ceremonial puck drop and dinner reception postgame. The men's hockey program had its inaugural season back in 2012-13.
 
All of the goals in the game came at even strength, beginning with Wilkes late in the first period.

The purple and gold were able to even the score two minutes into the second on Logan Tobias team team-leading ninth goal of the season. Nick Charron ripped a shot that rebounded to Tobias for a wrister into the top corner near the net.
 
Nazareth had its highest shot output period in the second with 17, but a late goal with :26 seconds remaining in the period from the Colonels proved to be the difference.
 
In the third period, Nazareth took a late penalty which didn't allow for emptying the net until just :30 seconds remained on the clock which proved costly.
 
Raphael Provencher made 20 saves in net.
