ROCHESTER, NY – Senior
Emma States tallied four goals, but it was not enough, as Nazareth fell in its season-opener 10-5 on Saturday at NLPA Field on a snowy and cold afternoon. It was each team's first game of the season.
The Yellowjackets notched the first four goals of the contest in the opening quarter, before States delivered Nazareth's first goal with 1:30 left.
U of R maintained a four-goal lead at the half, 6-2, after
Makenna Misiurewicz scored from
Kate Metzler.
The Golden Flyers were able to close with 7-5 in the third quarter with States hitting the back of the net on for back-to-back goals, but Nazareth would come no closer.
Rochester was the lone team to score in the fourth quarter, scoring three more for the 10-5 advantage.
Sophomore
Tori Henchen made her first career start in net, making nine saves.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Geneseo at 4 p.m.
