PITTSBURGH, PA – Freshman Logan Tobias scored a pair of third-period goals Friday night to lead the Nazareth Men's Hockey team to a 4-1 win over Chatham. With the victory, the Golden Flyers stay in contention for the No. 2 seed in the UCHC Tournament. Nazareth needs a win over Chatham Saturday to secure the seeding.
After a scoreless first period, Nazareth (14-7-2 overall, 12-5-1 UCHC) took the lead with two goals in the second period. Sophomore Joey Schaefer opened the scoring 1:47 into the period with a pass from fellow sophomore Anthony Quinlivan.
Just over 10 minutes later, freshman Ethan Louisos made it a 2-0 game as he took a pass from junior Johnny Jackson and scored to double the lead for Nazareth.
In the third period, Tobias added back-to-back goals to extend the lead. The freshman scored at the 8:19 mark and then made it a 4-0 lead nine minutes later. The goals were his 13th and 14th of the season and fourth and fifth goals in the last four games.
Nazareth had 47 shots on goal and sophomore Raphael Provencher finished with 28 saves to record his 10th win of the season.
The same two teams will finish the weekend series and the regular season schedule with a 7 p.m. game Saturday in Pittsburgh.
