Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Ethan Louisos scored three goals starting late in the second period as the Nazareth Men's Hockey team broke open a close game to pull away for a 5-1 victory Saturday afternoon over Manhattanville in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The win gave Nazareth (9-4-2 overall, 6-1-1 UCHC) three points in the conference standings and coupled with the two points from the Friday night tie and shootout win over the Valiants (6-9-2, 4-5-1 UCHC) to earn the five points in the UCHC standings.
Nazareth opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by senior Henry McKinney but Manhattanville answered with a power play goal less than a minute later and the teams were tied at 1-1 until late in the second period.
Louisos started his run of goals with 2:53 left in the period with assists from junior Johnny Jackson and sophomore Griffin Green.
Junior Liam Beaudoin gave Nazareth a two-goal edge with under 14 seconds left in the period and the Golden Flyers took a 3-1 lead and all the momentum into the intermission.
Louisos scored again to start the third period with an unassisted goal 5:19 into the stanza and then completed the hat trick at the 14:07 mark as freshman Blake Frost stole a pass and skated into the offensive zone before sending a perfect pass to Louisos on the edge of the goal for tally and the 5-1 Nazareth lead.
The Golden Flyers held a 32-23 edge in shots and sophomore Raphael Provencher made 22 saves including 10 in the third period for the win in the Nazareth goal.
Nazareth returns to action Friday with another home weekend series as the Golden Flyers host King's with games at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.
