PITTSFORD, NY – Junior Nathan Bowers shaved nearly 15 seconds off the Nazareth school record in the 10K race as he placed second to lead the Golden Flyers at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic meet Saturday.
Bowers ran 32:19.70 to beat the old record of 32:34.66 set back in 2006. The second place finish was one of the 17 top-ten finishes and one of the 11 top personal bests for the Nazareth athletes.
The Golden Flyers had a pair of first-place finishes as freshman Benjamin Lewis who clocked a PR of 50.90 to win the 400-meter race and junior Kaleb Luton raced to a 15.05 to win the 110-meter hurdles race. Fellow junior Connor McCauslin was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.36.
Senior Patrick Healy was second in the 800 with his career-best time of 2:00.90.
Additional top finishes came from a quartet of runners that each ran PR times in the 1500. Junior Lucas Sharron led the Golden Flyers with a fifth place finish in 4:06.83 and was followed by freshman Ethan Kenyon (7th – 4:10.13), freshman Cade Eells (8th – 4:11.00) and sophomore Kenny Williams (9th – 4:11.26).
A pair of runners had top-ten finishes in the 5K as sophomore Ethan Glashauser (4th – 16:05.86) and graduate student Michael Brown (9th – 16:38.04) had top times.
Two relays also finished well as the 4x100 with McCauslin, Lewis, junior Mike Welch and freshman Joey Nettles took fifth in 44.06. The 4x400 relay with Healy, Kenyon, senior Jake Suddaby and senior Josh Tomaka took sixth in 3:41.40.
In the field events, freshman Kyle Reid was seventh in the high jump with a PR height of 1.80 meters (5' 10 ¾"), senior Josh Pomerleau was 7th in the pole vault with a height of 3.40 meters (11' 1 ¾") and senior Christopher Perez was sixth with a PR in the hammer throw with a distance of 41.05 meters (134' 8").
Nazareth will compete at the Penn Relays and the University of Rochester next weekend.
