Connor McCauslin and
Christopher Perez each won individual titles for Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers secured a second-place finish at the Empire 8 Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship, contested at the Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.
The Golden Flyers competed without junior
Kaleb Luton, who was a top contender in multiple events, including the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash. She suffered a hamstring injury in Friday's long jump competition and failed to score. St. John Fisher repeated as team champion with 157 points. Nazareth had 139, followed by Utica (108), Houghton (41), Russell Sage (29), Alfred (21) and Hartwick (1).
McCauslin won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.50 and finished third in the 60-meter dash in 7.18. Perez was first in the weight throw with a heave of 16.21 meters (53 feet, 2 1/4 inches).
Nazareth scored 15 team points in the 800-meter run as the foursome of
Patrick Healy, Nathan mcNally,
Josh Tomaka and
Kenny Williams were bunched together in places 3 through 6 with just over a second of separation. Healy ran 2:02.62, followed by McNally (2:02.92), Tomaka (2:03.28) and Williams (2:03.65).
Nathan Bowers recorded his third second-place finish of the weekend with a runner-up effort in the 3,000-meter run (8:52.33). He finished second in both the mile and 5,000-meter run on Friday.
Ethan Glashauser finished fourth in the 3,000 with a personal-best time of 9:05.63 and
Cade Eells was fifth with a personal-best of 9:07.63.
Matthew Johnson, a winner in Friday's 400-meter dash, finished third in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 13.09 meters (42 feet, 11 1/2 inches). Kyle Read had his personal best in the high jump as he cleared 1.84 meters (6 feete 1/2 inch) to finish fourth and Ben Lewis finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of :23.01.
Nazareth was third in the 4x 400-meter relay (3:32.70) with the group of
Mike Welch, Lewis,
Joey Nettles and Healy.
