ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Lea Richard set a school record for Nazareth in the weight throw Saturday as the Golden Flyers finished in third place at the Nazareth Mini Invite at the Golisano Training Center.
Ithaca finished first in the team standings with 237 points. St. John Fisher (95) was a distant second, followed by Nazareth (92), Sage (48), Houghton (39) and Alfred (38).
Richard's record toss reached 14.75 meters (48 feet, 4 3/4 inches) was good for third place behind two throwers from Ithaca. Junior teammate
Gabrielle Pighetti also posted a personal-best in the same event with a heave of 13.28 meters (43 feet, 7 inches), good for sixth place.
Richard also finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 10.55 meters (34 feet, 7 1/2 inches) and Pighetti was sixth with a throw of 10.37 meters (34 feet, 1/4 inch).
Among the other top efforts was a first-place finish for freshman
Hannah Ragule in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 10.60 meters (34 feet, 9 1/2 inches). She also finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.47) and ran the lead-off leg of the 4 x 400-meter relay that placed second in 4:23.52.
Lauren Bendall,
Elizabeth Decker and
Abbey Szumloz also ran in that race.
The sprint events were highlighted by a first-place finish by junior
Brenna Johnson in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.06, just a couple ticks off her school record run of 8.04 set last year at Houghton. Johnson also finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.42. Freshman
Lauren Bendall was fourth in the 400 (1:05.66) and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (11.09), while Szumloz was fifth in the 400 (1:05.98) and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.47).
Junior
Madison Sabourin also competed and finished third in both the 60-meter dash (8.37) and the 200-meter dash (28.09). Freshman
Lilianna Hanning was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (20:17.59).
