Connor McCauslin won two events and sophomore
Nathan Bowers finished first in the 5,000-meter run Saturday to highlight a good day for the Nazareth's men's track and field team, which placed second at the Empire 8 Indoor Championships at the Golisano Training Center.
Nazareth totaled 143 points to finish a solid second behind St. John Fisher, which amassed 213 points. Utica was third with 59 points, followed by Houghton (53), Sage (18) and Alfred (10).
McCauslin shattered his own school record in winning the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.29 seconds, the ninth-best time in Division III this season. Moments later, he had a personal-best in the 60-meter dash with a winning time of 7.13 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in :23.72.
Bowers won the 5,000-meter run in strong fashion with a winning time of 15:37.47. He also finished third in the 3,000-meter run in 9:08.58.
Nazareth had several other personal-best performances, including distance runner
Jake Suddaby, who was third in the mile (4:34.24) and fifth in the 3,000 (9:16.28). Sophomore
Mike Welch ran 51.91 in the 400-meter dash to finish third. He also was third in the 200-meter dash (:23.69) and sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.37).
Sophomore
Kaleb Luton had a busy day, highlighted by a time of 7.29 seconds in the 60-meter dash to place fifth. He finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.34 meters (43 feet, 9 1/4 inches); fourth in the long jump with 6.34 meters (20 feet, 9 3/4 inches) and third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.57). Junior
Josh Tomaka had his best time of 9:06.28 to finish second in the 3,000-meter run. He also ran fifth in the mile (4:36.44) and third in the 800-meter run (2:03.82).

Josh Pomerleau and sophomore
Bryce Florian, who placed second and third respectively in the pole vault. Pomerleau cleared 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5 1/4 inches) and Florian topped 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 3/4 inches); senior
Michael Brown, who ran fifth in the 5,000-meter run (15:52.69); sophomore
Arthur DeVasto, who was second in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches); junior
Patrick Healy, who was fifth in the 800 (2:05.90); and senior Chris Celecki, who was fourth in the 800 (2:05.27).
Nazareth also won the distance medley relay in 11:03.69 with the foursome of Celecki,
Ahviere Reese,
Lucas Sharron and Suddaby. In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Celecki, Reese and Sharron were joined by Matt Johnson to finish second in 3:36.80.
