Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Host RIT, the top-ranked team in Division III, scored eight times in the first quarter and seven more times in the second as the Tigers built a commanding advantage and went on to defeat Nazareth in a non-conference men's lacrosse match, 23-8, at the Tigers' artificial turf field.
Each team was playing its first game of the season. For the Golden Flyers, it marked their first intercollegiate action in 361 days after their 2020 season was halted prematurely due to the COVD-19 pandemic. The Golden Flyers had a 5-2 record when the 2020 season ended.
On Wednesday, sophomores
Jack McOsker and
Clifford Pollard each scored two goals as did freshman
Quinn McKercher.
Nazareth yielded the first four goals of the game before McOsker scored Nazareth's first goal of the season midway through the opening period with an assist from
Jeremy Jacob. McKercher, off an assist from
Jon Roth, and Pollard each scored before the first period ended, but the Golden Flyers found themselves trailing 8-3. RIT controlled possession time, a stat that was bolstered by winning 24 of 35 face-offs overall.
RIT's lead grew to 15-4 by halftime as McKercher scored Nazareth's lone goal off an assist from Jacob. Pollard and junior
Tate Martinez had third-period goals for Nazareth, while McOsker and freshman
Quinn Conroy scored in the fourth.
RIT had a 52-34 advantage in shots as Dawson Tait and Larson Sundown each finished with four goals and Spencer Bell added a goal and six assists.
Junior
Eric Almquist played the first three quarters in goal and made 12 saves. Senior
David Walk added three more saves in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Flyers are home Saturday for a non-conference game against Clarkson at 4 p.m.
