Men’s Lacrosse Falls to St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Championship, 14-7

ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth Men's Lacrosse and St. John Fisher went to battle in the Empire 8 Championship game for the sixth year in a row on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals prevailed by a score of 14-7 on the back of a dominant performance in the faceoff X, winning 19 out of 25 draws. With the loss, the Golden Flyer win streak is snapped at 12 games.

How It Happened:
  • After St. John Fisher scored just over a minute in to break the ice, Kyle Rosenberger responded for the Golden Flyers with an unassisted tally. Rosenberger was able to walk in on the right side before finishing it low on the stick side to knot things up at one a piece.
  • Following the goal, a big faceoff win by Jonathan Zylinsky allowed Nazareth to get possession where Joey Hathorn gave the Golden Flyers their first lead of the game at 2-1.
  • The Cardinals got on the board late in the first quarter to even the score after 15 minutes of play.
  • St. John Fisher's offense came alive to start the second quarter as they scored twice in six seconds to gain a two goal lead. This helped spark a 6-0 run for Fisher in the second quarter, lasting over nine minutes.
  • With 3:31 remaining in the first half, Louis Cogliandro ended the Fisher run with a man up goal assisted by Joey Hathorn, cutting the lead to 8-3. St. John Fisher then answered with a goal of their own to take a 9-3 lead into the break.
  • The third quarter began with a flurry of goals, as St. John Fisher opened the scoring before William O'Neill responded for Nazareth. Less than a minute later, the Cardinals struck again to make it 11-4. Then, with just over three minutes left in the period, Matthew Farrington delivered a man down goal for the Golden Flyers.
  • St. John Fisher added one more with eight seconds remaining to close out the quarter with a 13-5 lead.
  • Following a St. John Fisher goal, Nazareth would double up with goals from Joey Hathorn and Kyle Rosenberger to cut the deficit to 14-7.
