ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Mike Welch won the 400-meter race and fellow sophomore Kaleb Luton was the top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Nazareth College Men's Track and Field team to a second place finish Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet with the University of Rochester and Roberts Wesleyan College.

Rochester won the team scoring with 78 points, Nazareth was second with 41 and Roberts Wesleyan was third with 36.

Welch clocked a 55.21 to win the 400-meter race while Luton and sophomore Connor McCauslin finished first and second in the 60-meter hurdles for Nazareth. Luton finished in 8.60 seconds and McCauslin was close behind at 8.63.

The finishes were three of the 11 top-three finishes on the day for the Golden Flyers.

The Distance Medley Relay with sophomore Nathan Bowers, freshman Kenny Williams, junior Patrick Healy and junior Josh Tomaka finished first with a combined time of 11:11.32. A second relay with freshman Ethan Glashauser, junior Matthew Johnson, freshman Matt Reimann and sophomore Lucas Sharron finished third with a time of 11:44.03.

Welch added third place finishes in both the 60-meter dash with a personal best 7.35 and 200-meter race (23.90). Tomaka was third in the 800-meters with his personal best at 2:02.40 and Bowers took third in the mile (4:32.00).

In the field events, sophomore Arthur DeVasto was second in the high jump (1.65 meters (5' 5")) and junior Josh Pomerleau broke the school indoor pole vault record and the first to break the 14-foot mark. He was second with a height of 4.28 meters (14' ½"). The old record was set in 2019 by Bryce Florian with a 4.25 meters (13' 11 3/4)

McCauslin added a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash while junior Christopher Perez was sixth in the weight throw (12.19 meters (40' 0")) and 11th in the shot put (9.72 meters (31' 10 ¾")).  Johnson was the top Nazareth finisher in the long jump (5.69 meters (18' 8")).

Nazareth will host the Nazareth Invitational March 6 with St. John Fisher, Rochester, Alfred and Houghton.
