ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Aliya Guzman, a sophomore on the Nazareth women's tennis team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period that ended Oct. 17. It marks the third time this season that Guzman has been recognized by the Empire 8.

A native of Penfield, N.Y. and a graduate Fairport High School, Guzman guided the Golden Flyers to their second straight Empire 8 Conference title over the weekend as Nazareth escaped with narrow wins over Houghton and Hartwick. Guzman was named tournament MVP as Nazareth gained an automatic berth to next May's NCAA Tournament. Guzman won both of her first singles matches in straight sets and also teamed with freshman Claire Pullen to takes points at first doubles. Guzman completed the fall season with a 9-1 record at first singles and a 10-0 mark in doubles.

Nazareth finished with a 9-1 overall record in the fall season and will resume competition in the spring. The E8 championship also was Nazareth's third in the past five seasons.
