Day one results
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth took first-place honors in the distance medley relay Friday to highlight the first day of competition for the Golden Flyers' men's track and field team at the Empire 8 Conference Indoor Championships at Houghton's Kerr-Pegula Athletic Center.
With competition resuming Saturday morning, Nazareth stands in third place in the team standings with 31 points. St. John Fisher leads with 82 points and is followed by Utica with 69. Nazareth, Houghton (22), Alfred (12) and Hartwick (1) also competed.
Nazareth had a winning time of 10:58.37 in the distance medley relay with the foursome of
Josh Tomaka, Michael Welch,
Christopher Celecki and
Jason Hall. Tomaka, Hall and Celecki also competed for Nazareth in the mile run and finished third, fourth and fifth respectively,. Tomaka ran a time of 4:30.52, Hall was at 4:31.76 and Celecki at 4:35.58.
Connor McCauslin qualified for Saturday's finals in both the 60-meter dash (fourth in 7.24) and the 60-meter hurdles (second in 8.51).
Kaleb Luton also made the finals in the hurdles with a fifth-place finish (:8.58).
Other notables included
Nathan Bowers with a fourth-place in the 5,000-meter run (15:50.47);
Bryce Florian with a fourth place in the pole vault (3.85 meters / 12 feet, 7 1/2 inches); Matt Johnson with a sixth place in the 400-meter dash (:52.27); and Luton with a ninth place in the long jump (6.37 meters / 20 feet, 10 3/4 inches).
Jake Suddaby and
Michael Brown also ran in the 5,000-meter run and finished eighth (16:19.59) and ninth (16:23.55) respectively.
