Jadyn Abrams equaled a career high with 25 points and senior
Lizzie Straub added 18 Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to a 75-58 women's basketball victory over Houghton in Empire 8 Conference action.
The victory was the fourth in a row for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Highlanders had a three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-6 in the E8. It was Nazareth's second victory over Houghton this season.
Abrams' hot night included 10-for-13 shooting from the field with two three-pointers. She also made all three of her free throw attempts. Straub went 7-for-13 from the field and made three three-pointers.
The Golden Flyers led 21-15 after one quarter and improved that advantage to 39-29 by halftime on the strength of a three-point basket by
Erica Bradley in the closing seconds of the second quarter.
Nazareth maintained its lead in he second half, but the Highlanders stayed close and drew within four, 59-55, early in the fourth quarter. Abrams scored on Nazareth's next possession to initiate a 16-3 scoring run to close out the game.
In addition to Abrams and Straub,
Rachel Benedict finished with 11 points despite a 4-for-18 shooting night. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Golden Flyers are back on the road for a pair of Empire 8 Conference games next weekend. They visit Elmira Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Hartwick Saturday at 4.
