ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth bolted to a 16-2 lead in the first six minutes of action Saturday and the Golden Flyers went on to a lopsided 87-42 women's basketball victory over Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action on Mike Daley Court at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The win enabled the Golden Flyers to snap a three-game losing streak as they improved to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in conference games. Elmira dropped to 4-14 overall and 2-6 in the E8. The Golden Flyers host first-place St. John Fisher Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the annual Battle of the Beaks game that benefits Golisano Children's Hospital.

Saturday's win featured several offensive contributors, with Rachel Benedict, Lizzie Straub and Jadyn Abrams scoring 21, 16 and 11 points respectively and combining for 10 of the team's season-high 15 three-point baskets.

Abrams' three three-pointers all came in Nazareth's initial scoring run that ended with the Golden Flyers in command at 25-8 through the first 10 minutes. Straub and Kristen Simmons also hit shots from long distance in the opening quarter.

Nazareth's lead continued to expand in the second quarter with Benedict and freshman Ryann Stefaniak each connecting from three-point range for a 44-19 halftime advantage. In the third quarter, Benedict and Straub each knocked down a pair of three-point shots to erase any Elmira comeback hopes. The lead was 69-30. In the fourth quarter Elizabeth White, Demetria Woodard and Delaney Martin all hit three-pointers.

Overall, Nazareth shot 33-for-65 (50.8 percent) in the game and 15-for-33 (45.5 percent) from three-point land. Nazareth also had a 47-29 rebounding edge with Benedict grabbing seven and Straub six.
