Lycoming Hands Men's Hoops 86-78 Loss

WILLIAMSBURG, PA – Playing in its first game in 13 days, the Nazareth men's basketball team faced a difficult matchup Friday night, falling 86-78 to Lycoming in each squads first game of Crosstown Challenge at Lycoming. 

Nazareth, losers of its last three games, falls to 4-3 on the season, while Lycoming improves to 9-1. 

Nazareth took an 11-10 lead six minutes into the first half off a Tyler Stenglein jumper.  He was 4-of-6 in the half for a team-leading 11 points.

Later in the half, the Warriors used an 8-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 35-22 with 2:09 to play.  The Golden Flyers battled in the final minutes, getting six points from Stenglein and Cody Green knocked down two 3-pointers, cutting the advantage to 37-32 at the break. 

Green helped keep the Golden Flyers in the game in the second half, draining three 3-pointers.  He hit a 3-pointer near the midway point to bring Nazareth within 58-57, but that is as close as it would come.

Lycoming built a lead to 70-59 with 6:37 remaining.  Nazareth cut the lead to four at 80-76 following a Josh Gillard 3-pointer with :21 seconds on the clock, but the Warriors converted their free throws to seal the win.

Stenglein finished with a game-high 24 points (9-of-18) with six boards and three assists.

Green went 5-for-10 from downtown for 15 points.

Brendan Wind (6-for-14) poured in 12 points and added a career-high 11 assists.  Gillard went 4-for-10 from 3-point land for 12 points.

Nazareth will square off against SUNY Potsdam at 4 p.m. on Saturday to close out the Crosstown Challenge at Lycoming.
