ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Buffalo State's Jason Zaleski scored the game-winning goal with 1:19 left to play in overtime to lead the visiting Bengals to a 3-2 victory over Nazareth in a non-conference hockey game on Saturday night. Junior James Redman and sophomore Ben Blasko scored for the Golden Flyers during regulation.

Following the loss, Nazareth stands at 5-6-3 overall. With the victory, Buffalo St. improves to 5-8-2 overall. It is the Golden Flyers' first loss of the season at the Bill Gray's Iceplex. Nazareth will look to rebound Friday evening when the Golden Flyers travel to Brockport for another non-conference contest.

Zaleski's scoring opportunity was the result of long pass from the Bengals' blue line to the Nazareth blue line. Zaleski collected the puck and skated in all alone on Golden Flyers' goalie Brandon Lane and slipped a shot passed him for the goal. In the opening minute of overtime, Lane made a pair of point-blank saves to keep the game tied.

Nazareth opened the scoring with 2:29 to play in the first period. After having the puck dropped back to him near the Bengals' blue line, Redman put a shot into the top corner of the net from near the right faceoff circle. The scoring chance came in transition as the Golden Flyers moved the puck up the right-wing boards to set up Redman's goal. It was his third of the season. Juniors Tom Seravalli and Scott Andler were credited with the assists.

Midway through the second, the Bengals tied the game after the Golden Flyers' defense turned the puck over in their own zone. Nick Melligan collected the loose puck and put a high wrist shot past Lane. Buffalo St. took its first lead of the game 3:36 into the third period. Following a bounce of the boards, Scott Roy found the back of the Nazareth net. Ryan Demyen earned the assist on the goal.

With just under 10 minutes to play in regulation, the Golden Flyers scored the game-tying goal on the power play. After passing the puck throughout the offensive zone, Blasko converted the scoring opportunity with a shot from near the slot. Sophomore C.J. Murray and freshman Oliver Janzen assisted on Blasko's second tally of the season. With his two goals and 11 assists, Blasko leads Nazareth in scoring.

The Golden Flyers finished with a 34-17 advantage in shots on goal, however, the Bengals had a 5-0 advantage in shots in overtime. Lane finished with 14 saves in the loss while Ian Sylves had 32 saves. Nazareth recorded a 33-23 advantage in faceoff victories. Blasko and senior Julius Tamasy each won nine while Andler won seven faceoffs.

With its advantage in shots, Nazareth had several scoring chances in regulation. Junior Don Olivieri pounded a slap shot from the right point that rang off the left post with about two minutes to play in the second period. In the third, freshman John Power intercepted a pass at the Golden Flyers' blue line and had a breakaway chance but his shot was wide left. Midway through the period, Tamasy was at the left post when he tipped a pass just wide of the net. A few minutes later, sophomore David Seward had the breakaway chance after intercepting a pass in the defensive zone. His shot was on target but was caught in Sylves' pads and stopped inches short of the goal line.
