ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's track and field team turned in several strong performances Saturday as the Golden Flyers competed in the second day of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships at Ithaca's Glazer Arena.
Nazareth's 4 x 800-meter relay team broke a school record with a second-place finish with the group of
Lauren Jamieson,
Kelsey Mash,
Lauren Heitzhaus and
Michaela Gildemeyer. They posted a time of 9:53.92 to easily break the record of 10:01.20 that had stood since 2006.
Other highlights included a school record run for Jamieson, who placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:07.08); a second-place finish for #Hannah Brackley in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.73, just a fraction of a second behind the winner, Eliza Dewart of Ithaca (1:00.36); a fifth-place finish for
Taylor Pierson in the 200-meter dash (:26.77); and a fifth- and eighth-place finish respectively for Gildemeyer (2:23.83) and Heitzhaus (2:25.37) in the 800-meter run.
Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay also finished third with a time of 4:08.70. That team consisted of Pierson,
Sibongile Chisi,
Keaghlan Morrissey and Brackley.
In the men's meet, junior
Jake Lafaver outkicked all competitors to the finish line to win the title in the 800-meter run with a facility-record time of 1:55.72. That victory accounted for 10 of Nazareth's team points. Junior
Matt Fedrizzi competed in the mile and finished 16th with a time of 4:49.30. Freshman
Khiary Gayle finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.51 meters.
