ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Ithaca scored the game's only goal with less than 10 minutes left in regulation Saturday as the fifth-ranked Bombers defeated Nazareth in a hard-fought women's soccer game, 1-0.

The victory was the eighth in a row for the Bombers, who improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8 Conference. Nazareth is 8-4-2 overall and 4-1 in conference games. The victory gives the Bombers the inside track to be the top seed and host for next month's conference tournament.

Ithaca had a 14-13 edge in shots, but the Bombers also had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. It was a corner kick, in fact, that ultimately foiled the Golden Flyers as Ithaca's Anna Gray delivered a kick in front of the Nazareth goal that Kelsey King headed past Nazareth keeper Abbie Carey.

King's goal, her team-best ninth of the season, came at 80:06. Nazareth desperately tried to generate some attack following's game-winner, but the only shot in the closing minutes came from the foot of Anne Czelusniak and was saved by Ithaca's Beth Coppolecchia, who made six saves overall in her fifth shutout of the season.

King came close to scoring earlier in the half as she dribbled a shot toward an open goal in the 77th minute, but Nazareth defender Kaitlyn Sowyrda kicked the ball away before it crossed the goal line.

Nazareth had eight shots in the first half, but the four saves made by Coppolecchia were routine. Carey also finished with six saves.

Nazareth has four regular-season games remaining, including a conference home game Wednesday against St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. The Golden Flyers also visit Utica Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
