ROCHESTER, NY - Despite an early goal for the Golden Flyers, St. Lawrence was able to find the equalizer late in the first half to force a draw on Saturday afternoon at Golden Flyer Stadium. With the tie, Nazareth now sits at 1-0-1, while the Saints get to 0-1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Similar to Tuesday's match, Nazareth got on the board very quickly, scoring just 4:20 into the contest. Savanna Biehler started the play, generating back to back shots off a fastbreak that were both saved. The ball was then played out to Giuliana Rodriguez who fed Lillian Fejko and she placed a beautiful shot top shelf to beat the goalkeeper from outside the 18.
- The Golden Flyers kept momentum going after the goal, generating a total of four shots on goal through the first eight minutes of the match.
- St. Lawrence was eventually able to weather the early Nazareth storm. Paige Barlow then almost made it 2-0 Nazareth as she fired a shot from the top‑right side of the box, forcing the Saints goalkeeper to make a fantastic stop just below the crossbar.
- In the 44th minute, St. Lawrence broke quickly on a counterattack and leveled the match at 1-1 just before halftime.
- The second half began as a defensive battle through the first 15 minutes. The Saints were able to possess the ball more than the Golden Flyers, but weren't able to create many opportunities.
- With about 20 minutes left in the second half, Nazareth went on the attack, generating a couple of strong chances, including a clean look from Kiyomi Mastro off a free kick.
- Both teams were unable to get on the board for a second time, resulting in a 1-1 tie. The Golden Flyers outshot the Saints 15-9.
