WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth sophomore
Carissa Risucci moved up to third place Friday evening in the 100-yard breaststroke to highlight a competitive session for the Golden Flyers as they continued to compete at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships at Webster Aquatic Center.
Risucci shaved more time off her NCAA B-cut qualifying time with a clocking of 1:05.71. She was touched out at the finish by Union's Kaleigh Ahern and Stevens' Gabriel Czernik. An All-American last season in two events, Risucci swims again Saturday as the top seed in the 200-yard breaststroke. The final day of competition begins at 10 a.m.
Nazareth is still fifth in the team standings with 589 points. They trail Ithaca (1178), Stevens (1006.50), Union (844) and Hartwick (611).
In other races, freshman
Maura Reissig placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (:59.98) and Nazareth broke a school record with a fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay. Reissig teamed with juniors
Rachael Phipps and
Jaclyn Conklin and sophomore
McKenna Murphy to post a time of 7:52.01, a fraction better than last season's record.
Conklin and Murphy each made the consolation finals in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing ninth and 10th respectively with times of 2:12.90 and 2:14.06. Freshman
Emily Sauter was 11th in the 100 backstroke (1:01.14).
In the men's meet, sophomore
Jacob Kline swam 10th in the 100 backstroke (:54.34) and junior
Dan Walton was 16th in the 200 butterfly (2;04.79). Sophomore
Mike Bidwell was 17th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.81). Nazareth's foursome of Walton, Bidwell and freshmen
Justin Sawran and
Bryan Geary swam 10th in the 800 free relay (7:21.89).
Nazareth is 10th in the team standings with 224 points. Ithaca holds a slim lead over Stevens in the overall standings 964-949.
