Nazareth falls in RIT final

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth lost to New York University in women's volleyball Saturday for the second time in a week. This time the Violets defeated the Golden Flyers in three sets in the finals of the 21st annual RIT Invitational. Scores 25-13, 25-9, 25-20. Senior setter Kate Zwickl represented Nazareth on the all-tournament team.

Nazareth finished the tournament with three victories in four matches, including a three-set triumph over Geneseo in Saturday morning's semifinals, to improve to 8-6 overall.

NYU also defeated Nazareth in a four-set consolation match at last week's Nazareth Invitational. Saturday's match wasn't as close as the Violets dominated Nazareth from the outset and had two players named to the all-tournament team in freshmen Kendyl Dunn (the tournament MVP) and Natalie Fernandez.

Freshman Aubrey Cooke had seven kills for Nazareth and junior Kristi Custer had five. Zwickl finished with 20 assists and senior Mallorie Clary had eight digs.

Earlier in the day, Nazareth downed Geneseo in three sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.

Senior Katelynn Reed combined 12 kills with six blocks for Nazareth and senior Zwickl had 32 assist and 10 digs and Clary totaled 22 digs.
