ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- In the second day of the Golden Flyer Invitational, Nazareth fell to Allegheny 3-1 (8-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21) in its first match Saturday, then fell to New York University 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20) in its second match. Senior
Katelynn Reed recorded a team-high 13 kills to lead the Golden Flyers against NYU.
Following the losses, Nazareth finishes the Golden Flyer Invitational with a 2-2 record and a 4-5 record overall. Allegheny finishes the Tournament with a 2-2 record and are 2-7 overall. The Violets had a 3-1 record in the Invitational, and have an 8-1 overall record. NYU's lone lost came to Heidelberg in its first match Saturday. Heidelberg eventually won the Invitational after defeating Cortland in four sets.
In addition to Reed's kills against the Violets, juniors
Megan Rogers and
Kristi Custer recorded 10 kills and nine kills respectively. Custer was voted to the all-tournament team following the final matches.
Senior
Mallorie Clary continued to lead the Golden Flyers' defense as she tallied 28 digs. Senior
Kate Zwickl recorded a team-high 43 assists and also contributed 11 digs. Sophomore
Leah Farrell added 13 digs defensively.
Kendyl Dunn and Elizabeth Dick each had 12 kills for New York University while Natalie Fernandez finished with 11 kills. Dick also had a team-high 16 digs, and Mina Baban tallied 38 assists.
In the match against Allegheny, Freshman
Amy Johnson finished with eight kills for the Golden Flyers. Reed and sophomore
Ashlee Travis each added six kills. Clary had a match-high 22 digs, while Zwickl tallied a team-high 28 assists.
Allegheny's Jordan Leopold and Caitlin Solan contributed 12 kills apiece to the Gators' attack. Leopold and Solan also recorded 18 digs and 12 digs respectively. Caileigh Hughes finished with a team-high 22 assists.
Nazareth travels to St. John Fisher September 16th for its next match.
