Hans Schroeder and senior
Ryan Johnsen each tallied eight kills to lead the host Golden Flyers to a 3-0 (30-16, 30-11, 30-20) victory over SUNYIT. Schroeder recorded a .700 hitting percentage and helped lead Nazareth to team hitting percentages of .464 in the first set, .450 in the second set, and .565 in the third set.
With the victory, the Golden Flyers, who are ranked seventh nationally in the Bison/AVCA poll, evened their record to 1-1. Nazareth's first match ended in a loss to Division 1 St. Francis. The Wildcats were playing their first match of the season and fall to 0-1 with the loss.
Freshman
Billy Gimello added seven kills and a team-high three service aces and four assisted blocks for the Golden Flyers while senior
Joe Petzoldt tallied six kills. Senior
Frank Leahy amassed 28 assists and junior
Kevin Kirchhoff finished with 13 assists.
Ryan Meller led SUNYIT with eight kills followed by Adam Wightman with four kills. Jonathan Brochu also added 11 assists. Nazareth held the Wildcats to hitting percentages of -.087, -.350, and .100 in the three sets respectively. The Golden Flyers forced SUNYIT into 22 hitting errors and 11 receiving errors.
The Golden Flyers travel to the Stevens Invitational January 23rd and 24th where they will play 15th-ranked Hunter, 5th-ranked New York University, 8th-ranked Stevens, and D'Youville.
