OSWEGO, NY (
nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's golf team successfully defended their lead on day two of the Oswego State Fall Invitational on Sunday, taking home their second tournament win of the season. Nazareth carded the 6th best score on day two at +27, but their day-one lead proved enough to hold off Clarkson and Oswego's B Team who tied for 2nd. The Golden Flyers concluded the event with a total score of +32 and were led by
Jason Clifton who placed 2nd overall individually with a score of +1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jason Clifton carded a 76 (+5) on Sunday, earning him a 2nd place finish in the individual tournament with a total weekend score of 147 (+1). His round 2 performance included 2 birdies, including one to close out the round on hole #18.
- Ending the tournament in 9th place overall and 2nd on his team was Jack Fesetch, who carded a day-2 score of 79 (+8) culminating to a 152 (+10) total score. His final round was highlighted by a string of 5 consecutive pars on the front side.
- Improving hugely on his day-1 score was Lincoln Crosby, who celebrated his 24th birthday on the golf course. He turned in a score of 75 (+4) on Sunday that included impressive consistency, kicking off the front nine with 7 straight pars, then shooting 5 straight to start the back nine. Crosby finished the tournament tied for 16th place with a total score of 155 (+13).
- Jaxstin Bingham also ended the Invitational tied for 16th place individually with a 155 (+13) two-day score. He shot an 81 (+10) in round 2, capped off by a birdie on 18.
- Joshua Anstett left Oswego Country Club with a 22nd-place finish on a score of 156 (+14). He carded an 81 (+10) on Sunday, ending his round with a trio of pars.
- Nazareth's "Team B", made up of Daniel Meritt, Justin Krause, Todd Willson, Charlie Calcagni and Jake Elinich, finished the weekend in 10th place with a 36-hole team score of +99. They carded a total of +57 on closing day, and their respective individual tournament scores were +18, +23, +25, +33 and +36.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Golden Flyers will compete next in the RPI Collegiate Invitational, their last tournament before the Empire 8 Fall Championship. Competition at Albany's Shaker Ridge Country Club will take place on Monday, October 5th, when the RPI Engineers will host a field of 15 teams.
