nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's golf team played the first round of the Oswego State Fall Invitational on Saturday on Oswego Country Club, where they built a substantial lead through 18 holes. The Golden Flyers accumulated a team score of +5, 11 strokes better than 2nd place SUNY Oswego. Nazareth was led by
Jason Clifton, who leads the event with a 67 (-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jason Clifton leads the invitational after day one, with a score of 67 (-4) highlighted by 3 birdies and an eagle on the 10th hole. He leads the field by 4 strokes, being the only golfer to come in under par.
- Jack Fesetch was Nazareth's second lowest scorer, placing tied for 4th overall at the half way point of the weekend with a score of 73 (+2). Fesetch recorded 5 birdies, 3 of which came consecutively on holes 14-16.
- Jaxstin Bingham sits in 6th place individually after turning in a score of 74 (+3). He sank 3 birdies on the day.
- Joshua Anstett rounded out the team-scoring golfers for his squad, placing tied for 7th individually thanks to a 75 (+4) on the day. His round included 3 straight birdies on holes 5-7, and one more on 14.
- Lincoln Crosby placed tied for 28th overall after carding an 80 (+9) through 18 holes of play. He birdied the 10th hole and concluded Nazareth's first team of golfers.
- The Golden Flyers fielded a second team in Oswego, who were led by Daniel Meritt in 23rd place individually. Meritt eagled the 14th hole en route to a score of 78 (+7) on the day.
- Justin Krause, Todd Willson, Charlie Calcagni and Jake Elinich made up the rest of Team B, scoring 80 (+9), 83 (+12), 85 (+13), and 88 (+17) respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Golden Flyers will look to hold onto their lead on Sunday, September 27th in hopes of picking up their 2nd straight tournament win in Oswego.
