Box Score FAIRPORT, NY – An ice issue at the Rochester Ice Center delayed the inaugural Battle of the Beaks hockey rivalry between Nazareth (10-6-3, 4-5-1) and host St. John Fisher (9-11, 3-9) on Friday night. Following the delay, however, the Golden Flyers outlasted the Cardinals by the score of 4-2 behind a pair of goals from
Charles Ross and
Kai Shen.
How It Happened:
- Fisher opened the scoring 7:17 into the first period when Mitchell Ferras beat the Golden Flyers' Paul Dalessio. It was Ferras's fourth goal of the season.
- Nazareth answered midway through the second period with a power play goal by Ross.
- After the teams scored a total of two goals in the opening 40 minutes of the contest, each team found the net in the opening eight minutes of the third.
- Less than five minutes into the third period, the Cardinals' James Evans reclaimed Fisher's lead with a power play goal.
- The Cardinals' 2-1 lead was short-lived as the Golden Flyers tied the game a few minutes later on Shen's first goal of the game.
- Shen gave Nazareth its first lead of the game with 5:24 remaining in regulation when he scored on the power play.
- Ross added an empty net goal with 10 seconds to play to secure the Golden Flyers' victory.
Game Notes:
- Dalessio tallied a game-high 29 saves and recorded a .935 save percentage in the Nazareth goal.
- The Golden Flyers were 2-for-7 on the power play while Fisher finished 1-for-2.
- Nazareth's Owen Heidelberger and Jason Shafer finished with one assist apiece.
- The Golden Flyers recorded advantages in shots on goal (32-31), penalty minutes (4-14), blocked shots (14-9), and faceoffs (36-32).
- With his goals, Ross has a three-game point streak. His two goals matched his season-high (vs. Manhattanville, 12/6/25).
- Shen's pair of goals tied the season-high that he set vs. Oswego (1/27/26).
