Men's Tennis Overcomes Houghton, 6-3

HOUGHTON, NY – The Nazareth men's tennis team picked up a huge conference win on Saturday, defeating rival Houghton, 6-3. The Highlanders have won the last two Empire 8 Championships.

Nazareth is now the only undefeated team in the West Division (Houghton, Oswego, Alfred, St. John Fisher, and Nazareth) with a 3-0 conference record. The Golden Flyers are 7-5 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Max Funiciello and Griffin Bond set the tone at first singles with an 8-2 win, while Pierre Ntonga and David Tuller secured a point at third doubles with an 8-5 victory.

Bond was also a winner at first singles 6-3, 6-4, and Funiciello was able to win in three sets at second singles after losing the first set. He won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The Golden Flyers also saw Enoch Li win in three sets in the fifth slot, 6-2, 6-7 (13, 15), and 7-5. The final winner was Chris Benedict at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, hosting St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
