MARYLAND - Rugby fell short in the first three games of the CRC 7's tournament at Maryland Soccerplex on Friday.
Game 1
9 am today was vs Iowa central community college - a #1 seed in the tournament.
ICCC started off hot and went out to an early lead. Nazareth was close to scoring multiple times to end the first half but a few handling errors ended the first half without Nazareth getting on the board.
In the second half it was a much tighter contest,
Dylan Fairchild had a kick and chase score to open the scoring for the Golden Flyers.
Iowa central CC put another try up as time expired to make the final score 34-5.
Game 2
The second match was in the bowl series where Nazareth matched up with Walsh University- formerly the program at Notre Dame College. Walsh opened the scoring early but the score was 5-0 for most of the first half. However, Walsh grabbed 2 more tries as time expired in the half.
The Golden Flyers opened the scoring in the second half with a nice set on attack where
Aiden Pavlek made 2 defenders commit and he assisted Fairchild for a try,
Owen Barr added the conversion.
Nazareth struggled defensively the rest of the second half and final score was 38-7 in favor of Walsh.
Game 3
The third game was in the shield series and Nazareth matched up with Delaware.
Nazareth opened the game with a beautiful kickoff receive and ball movement where
Eitan Otero assisted
Rashawn Bowen who made multiple defenders miss to finish the 60m try.
Delaware fought hard defensively and capitalized on a few Nazareth errors. As the first half concluded, Nazareth was down 10-7.Â
Delaware scored early in the second half to make it 15-7 and Nazareth's comeback fell short after getting into the red zone a few times before the game ended. Delaware took the match at a score of 15-7.
Golden Flyers face off with Michigan Saturday at 9 am in the consolation rounds and another opponent (TBD) at 12:40.
