Richard Becomes Two-Time All-American; Takes 9th in Weight Throw at NCAA Indoor Championships

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Lea Richard advanced to the final of the weight throw, finishing in ninth place and earning Second Team All-America on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Golisano Training Center.

Richard's throw came on her third attempt when she threw 17.82 meters (58' 5 ¾"), marking her best of the season. She threw 17.81 meters (58' 5 ¼") on two separate occasions earlier in the year at the Empire 8 Championships (3/1) and at the D3 Elite Meet (2/14). 




The Gansevoort, NY native is now a two-time all-american after placing 13th in weight throw at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships with a distance of 17.01 meters (55' 9 ¾") to earn second team honors. She was competing in her third NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships after placing 17th in 2023 with a mark of 16.33 meters (53' 7").

In the final on Friday, Richard had two successful tosses of 17.09 meters (56' 1") and 17.69 meters (58' 0 ½"), before fouling on her third attempt.
