ROCHESTER, NY - A near half-court buzzer beater from Solomon McFarlane capped a dramatic finish, lifting Nazareth to a 56-53 win over RIT on Tuesday night. The Golden Flyers improve to 3-0, ending the thriller in spectacular style.
 

How It Happened:

• Both teams started cold from the field, but Tyler Putney's two early three-pointers gave Nazareth a 9-8 lead just over six minutes in.

• The Golden Flyers would then go on a 10-4 run in 3:22, building their largest advantage of the half at 21-12 with a little more than eight minutes to play before halftime.

• RIT outscored Nazareth 13-12 in the final eight minutes, cutting the margin to 30-25 at halftime.

• The leading scorers for the Golden Flyers were Tyler Putney with 9 points and Ryan Broderick with 8.

• A strong start to the second half for RIT would give them the lead 35-31 six minutes in. 

• Moments later, Luke Insley and Jaylen Savage orchestrated a strong Nazareth pushback, putting the Flyers back in front 39-37.

•  RIT would respond with a 7-0 run of their own to regain the lead 48-43 with 4:37 left. 

• Jaylen Savage would then score six straight points to put Nazareth back in front, 49-48. He later knocked down a jumper with 1:21 remaining to give the Flyers a 53-51 lead.

• The game would continue to go back and forth until Solomon McFarlane hit an incredible buzzer beater to give the Golden Flyers the win, 56-53. 

Game Notes:

• Jaylen Savage led the way for Nazareth, posting 18 points 

• Luke Insley recorded 10 points and added 5 assists

• Tyler Putney finished with 9 points

• Ryan Broderick recorded an efficient 8 points in just 10 minutes of action, going 3-6

• Merritt Holly recorded a season high 16 rebounds and tallied 6 points
