ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate Student Brenna Johnson became the first-ever Nazareth athlete to win the prestigious Elite 90 Award on March 10, 2023 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. In winning the Elite 90 Award, Johnson had the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. An Elite 90 award winner is selected at each of the NCAA's 90 championships throughout the year.
To be eligibe for the Elite 90 Award, nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and competing at the NCAA Championships. The NCAA academic criteria is strictly for undergraduate GPA, but graduate students are eligible for the award.
Johnson was in her fifth-year as a physical therapy major, and had compiled a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA over 125 credits of coursework at Nazareth.
