ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman
Haleigh Suitor went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI in game two to help Nazareth earn a split with Sage on Tuesday in conference action. The Golden Flyers fell 4-3 in nine innings in game one, before downing the Gators 12-10. Sophomore
Maddy Spakoski had a strong day going 5-for-10 with three RBI.
Nazareth is now 4-18 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while Sage moves to 6-16 and 2-4 in Empire 8 play.
In the opening game, Spakoski doubled to score Suitor in the 1st inning to make it 1-0.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th, Nazareth tied the game on an error by the shortstop on a Spakoski at-bat to tie the game.
The Gators eventually won the contest with an unearned run in the 9
th.
Nazareth did some major damage in the second and third innings in game two, scoring five runs in the second and four in the third. With the bases loaded,
Morgan Russo singled and scored two. Suitor then delivered one of her three hits in the game, a single, to pick up 2 RBI. The very next batter, Spakoski homered to right center to make it 6-1.
Russo came up in the third with another opportunity with bases loaded and singled to score one run. Suitor reach on a throwing error by the shortstop and three runs scored on the at-bat. She was 3-for-5 with three RBI in the game. Spakoski then singled to score Suitor.
Nazareth's final two runs came in the fourth with Suitor doubling for 2 RBI.
Sage tried to claw back with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the seventh.
Ashley Bell earned her second win of the season, striking out three.
Nazareth returns to action on Thursday, hosting Geneseo at 3 and 5 p.m.
