Box Score UTICA, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers remain unscathed in conference play after defeating SUNY Poly in three sets on Friday night. Nazareth is now 13-8 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
Nazareth came into the match hot, beginning the first set with a four-point run, followed by a six-point run, the two only broken up by one Wildcat point to start the set at a commanding 10-1 lead. Four of those 10 points were from
Leah Fusilli with one kill and three aces. The Wildcats could not come back from the deficit and the set ended at a score of 25-11.
The second set was much more interesting, despite Nazareth's early 8-2 lead. After jumping out to an early lead, the set was much more back and forth until SUNY Poly went on a five-point run down 24-19 to tie up the set. After a Wildcat error,
Ella Kules put the set away with an ace to end the set at 26-24.
The third set was a close battle until the Wildcats started to pull away with a 15-11 lead. Kills from
Alana Lucey and
Tessa Grover, as well as a service ace from
Sarah Harvey allowed Nazareth to close the gap to one point. Down 16-14, Nazareth went on a four-point run to regain the lead with a kill from Grover, two aces from
Jenna Mattison, and a Wildcat error. At a score of 20-18, Nazareth closed out the last five points off an ace from
Zoe Tylipakis and four SUNY Poly errors.
Grover led the team in kills with nine, while Tylipakis and
Zipporah Sparkman each added five. Kules dominated with 21 assists, while also adding six digs. Mattison and Tylipakis also added nine and eight digs respectively.
The Golden Flyers will be back on the road tomorrow, October 26
th, for a 1 p.m. conference match against Utica.
