Aaron Lund set a new school record in the heptathlon at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational over the weekend, compiling 4,141 points over the 2-day event to finish in 10
th place. Fellow freshman
Jack Pomykaj finished in 13
th place with 2,858 points.
The previous school record of 3,884 points was set by Dan Polino in 2012.
On Saturday, the athletes competed in the long jump, shot put, high jump, and 60-meter dash. Lund's best finish came in the high jump as his mark of 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9 ¼ inches) earned him a tie for fourth place. He also had a strong showing in the shot put as his heave of 10.06 meters (33 feet, 0 ¼ inches) earned him a seventh place. Pomykaj's best performance on Saturday was the 60-meter dash in which he earned ninth place in 7.45 seconds.
Lund delivered a fifth-place run in the 60-meter hurdles on Sunday in 8.91 seconds and also was fourth in the 1,000-meter run, clocking a 2:56.94. He was 13
th in the pole vault at 2.90 meters (9 feet, 6 ¼ inches). Meanwhile, Pomykaj had his highest scoring event in the pole vault, notching a 3.60 meter vault (11 feet, 9 ¾ inches) to take sixth.
Overall, Lund was 13
th in the 60-meter dash, 11
th in the long jump, seventh in the shot put, fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, 13
th in the pole vault and fourth in the 1,000-meter run.
