ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's indoor track and field squad earned its first-ever Empire 8 Championship on Saturday at the Golisano Training Center, collecting 178 points over the two-day event. Sophomore
Cade Eells was named the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Meet after securing 26 points. He won the mile run, crossing the finish line first in a time of 4:26.62 and was runner-up in both the 800-meters (1:58.95) and 3,000-meter run (8:55.95).
Nazareth came into the day leading by 16 points over Utica, and ended up with a 27 point advantage. The scores were as follows:

Kaleb Luton rose to the occasion on Saturday, winning the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.17, a regional qualifying time, and his best of the season. He was also runner up in the triple jump, with a mark of 13.73 meters (45 feet, 0 ½ inches), which also qualified him for regionals.
Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay team of
Mike Welch,
Michael Puglisi,
Gavin McAllister and
Benjamin Lewis rolled to a two second win in the final event of the meet, clocking a regional qualifying time of 3:25.18.
Just ahead of Eells in the 3,000-meter run was senior
Nathan Bowers in a time of 8:52.80. The Golden Flyers also got a good race from
Matt Reimann, who was fourth (8:58.85).
The freshman duo of
Aaron Lund and
John Pomykaj were third and fourth, respectively in the heptathlon, Lund with 4,261 points and Pomykaj with 4,122. Lund was also third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.72), followed by senior
Connor McCauslin (8.80).
Nazareth had a good effort in the 200-meter run, with freshman
Michael Puglisi running a regional qualifying time of 22.84 for second. Welch was fifth (23.25) and Lewis (23.238).
