Emma Parry named E8 Defensive Player of the Year

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Emma Parry, a senior defender on the Golden Flyers' women's lacrosse team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022 women's lacrosse season. Parry, one of three Nazareth players named to the first team, was chosen through voting by the league's head coaches.

In addition to Parry, attacker Emma States and midfielder Reva Mussi represented the Golden Flyers on the first team. Four others were named the second team in attacker Emma Robinson, midfielder Annie Rubel, defender Lauren Caldwell and goalkeeper Emma Prosak. Attacker Maren Wallace was chosen to the third team and goalkeeper Katie Lawrence was named as Nazareth's representative on the E8 Sportswoman of the Year team.

In addition, Nazareth's Traci Lian and her staff shared Coaching Staff of the Year honors with St. John Fisher.

Parry, of Camillus, N.Y., and States, a junior from Phoenix, N.Y., made the first team for the second year in a row. Parry contributed one goal and two assists and set a single-season Nazareth records with 95 draw controls and 45 caused turnovers. She also led the team with 55 ground balls. States was the Golden Flyers' leading scorer in 2022 with 72 points on 51 goals and 21 assists. She also ranked second on the team with 20 caused turnovers. Her career statline also included her 100th career goal.

Mussi, a junior from Liverpool, N.Y., was Nazareth's top-scorer from the midfield with 26 points on 23 goals and three assists and ranked second on the team with 45 draw controls.

Robinson, a senior from Central Square, N.Y., ranked second on the team in scoring with 47 points on 40 goals and seven assists. She also surpassed the 100-goal mark for her career during the season. Rubel, a junior from Syracuse, N.Y., had 13 goals and three assists with 23 ground balls, 18 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers.

Caldwell, a senior from Liverpool, N.Y., started all 18 games as a defender and contributed one goal with 21 ground balls, 14 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Prosak, a senior from Jamesville, N.Y., made eight starts in goal for the Golden Flyers in place of Lawrence, who missed five games. Prosak posted a 5-3 record with 55 saves and a .447 save percentage.

Wallace, a junior from Canandaigua, N.Y., ranked third on the team in scoring with 42 points on 19 goals and a team-best 23 assists.

One member of each team was named as that institution's representative on the 2022 Empire 8 women's lacrosse Sportswoman of the Year team. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "competing with honor and integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. As Nazareth's representative, Lawrence, of Tully, N.Y., has consistently exhibited the critical traits as an outstanding sportswoman.

Lian completed her 14th season with the Golden Flyers in 2022 and has been a collegiate women's lacrosse coach for 20 seasons. She has 125 wins for Nazareth, including an 8-10 mark in 2022 with a 5-1 record in the Empire 8. Nazareth defeated Utica in the semifinals of the E8 Tournament before falling to St. John Fisher in the champonship game.
