Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Geneseo, 16-5

ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth Women's Lacrosse fell 16-5 to Geneseo on Saturday afternoon, as the Knights jumped out early and controlled the pace throughout. The Golden Flyers battled to generate momentum in the second half but couldn't overcome the early deficit. With the loss, Nazareth falls to 2-11 on the season and 2-3 in Empire 8 play.  
 
How It Happened:
  • Geneseo controlled the pace of play from the very beginning, scoring two goals in under three minutes. Despite two quick goals, Allie Klestinec kept Nazareth in it, making four saves early on.
  • After more pressure from Geneseo, they would capitalize again with 9:33 remaining in the first quarter to make it 3-0, forcing a Nazareth timeout. 
  • With 1:38 remaining in the first quarter, the Golden Flyers would get on the board as Grace Gardner set up Maria DeLorenzo in front of the goal and she made no mistake.
  • Geneseo added on one more in the first quarter, giving themselves a 5-1 lead. 
  • In the second quarter, the Knights went on a 5-0 run before Megan Martin scored for Nazareth with three minutes remaining in the half to end the Geneseo run. 
  • Geneseo responded shortly after to take a 11-2 lead into the break. 
  • After two goals from Geneseo to open the half, Nazareth responded with goals from Gwen Newtown and Megan Martin in under a minute which cut the Knights lead to 13-4 late in the third quarter. 
  • Six minutes into the fourth quarter, Gwen Newtown doubled down, scoring her second goal of the day to help cut the Geneseo lead to 14-5.
  • Geneseo added on two more goals to earn a 16-5 win. 
Game Notes:
  • Allie Klestinec made 12 saves
  • Megan Martin and Gwen Newtown led the way offensively, both recording two goals
  • Maria DeLorenzo had two points (1G, 1A)
  • With the win, Geneseo has now taken the last five meetings, narrowing a series that Nazareth once led with an undefeated 9-0 record
What's Next:
  • Nazareth will look to get back on track Wednesday, April 15th as they host Alfred University at 4 p.m.
