ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Benjamin Lewis had a personal best in the 100 and junior Mike Welch ran his best time in the 400 to lead the Nazareth College Men's Track and Field team at the Rochester Invitational Saturday.
Lewis was third in the 100 with an 11.31 time and Welch was third in the 400 with a time of 50.68 for the Golden Flyers.
Geneseo won the team points race with 137.5 points followed by Brockport (137 points) and Rochester (136) in a close battle for the top three places. RIT (86) was fourth and Ithaca (63) was fifth followed by Alfred State (37) and Nazareth (33). The Golden Flyers finished ahead of Daemen, St. John Fisher, Buffalo State, Houghton, Fredonia, LeMoyne and Alfred.
Freshman Cade Eells was fourth with a regional qualifying time of 9:54.78 in the 3K Steeplechase and teammate Ethan Kenyon was eighth in 10:20.94.
Nazareth had a pair of fifth place finishes in relays as the 4x100 with Connor McCauslin, Lewis, Welch and freshman Joey Nettles had a time of 44.48. The 4x400 relay with freshman Noah Engel, senior Patrick Healy, junior Lucas Sharron and senior Josh Tomaka had a time of 3:36.67.
McCauslin was 12th in the 100 (11.47) and Nettles was eighth in the 400 (53.03). McCauslin was also eighth in the 400 hurdles with a PR time of 59.12.
Junior Nathan Bowers was sixth in the 1500 with a PR time of 4:02.28.
Josh Pomerleau was eighth in the pole vault (4.12 meters (13' 6 ¼")) while junior Kaleb Luton was eighth in the triple jump (12.57 meters – 41' 3") and Matthew Johnson was ninth in the triple jump with a 12.34 (40' 6").
Nazareth hosts the Empire 8 Championships May 6-7 at Golden Flyer Stadium.
