ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth had 12 different goal scorers Wednesday in an Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse game as the Golden Flyers claimed their second straight win with a 22-8 triumph over Alfred.
In a game played at Golden Flyer Stadium and included a 34-minute weather delay, Nazareth was able to improve to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the Empire 8. Alfred dropped to 7-3 and 1-1.
Brett Randall tallied six points on three goals and three assists and
Quinn McKercher and
Jeremy Jacob each scored three times.
Jon Roth,
Greg Bilek,
Braeden McKercher and
Jon Parrinello had two goals each.
Owen Riley had four points, including his first career goal.
Quinn Conroy,
Clifford Pollard,
Nathan Anderson and
Max Popolizio also scored.
Nazareth's final stat line also included 24 face-off wins and 19 ground balls for
Matt Keane and 12 saves in 42 minutes of action for goalie
Eric Almquist.
The game was tied 2-2 midway through the first quarter before Nazareth generated seven of the next eight goals to seize control. All told, Nazareth scored eight times in the second quarter, including Randall's third goal of the game before the halftime horn, to take a 13-4 lead.
Nazareth then outscored the Saxons 5-1 in the third quarter and that was followed by the lightning delay.
In the fourth quarter, Riley scored his first goal off a pass from Randall at 11:45. That was followed by goals from Anderson, Parrinello and Popolizio as the lead grew to 22-5.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (65-42) and ground balls (43-31) and a huge edge in face-offs (26-6). Keane's 24 wins was one off his own school record that he reached against Hartwick last Friday. His 19 ground balls were one shy of the Nazareth record of 20 held by Drew Simoneau since 2014.
The Golden Flyers are off Easter weekend, but will return to action Wednesday at Keuka at 7 p.m.
